Kneecap are not only confirmed to perform at Glastonbury this Saturday afternoon, but after the BBC were apparently not going to show their set, it appears they have had a change of heart.
The band - who’s frontman Mo Chara is currently on unconditional bail in relation to terror charges - posted on their Instagram page, ‘The propaganda wing of the regime has just contacted us...
They WILL put our set from Glastonbury today on the iPlayer later this evening for your viewing pleasure.”
They followed this with a warning to fans at the festival, saying the West Holts stage where they’ll be performing at 4pm will be at far greater capacity than it can handle, and “you’ll need to be very early to catch us... VERY EARLY.”
In a separate statement, Glastonbury said, “Please have some other entertainment options in mind in case the field reaches capacity and we need to close it as part of our crowd planning measures.”
Expect more outspoken controversy from the band, who have faced the chagrin of Keir Starmer and other politicians, whilst also bringing support from other musicians.
Mo Chara (real name Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh) was charged under the Terrorism Act for allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag and chanting “Up Hamas, up Hezbollah” during a gig in London last year. He is due to appear in court again in August.
