BBC Strictly Come Dancing final dances and songs confirmed but 'rule change' called for by fans

It is finally here. After weeks of tense competition and heartbreak, the Strictly Come Dancing final is due to air on Saturday, December 17. As just four couples get ready to put on their dancing shoes for the last time on the show, viewers claim that they have identified a 'key issue'. Fans of the BBC show have "taken exception" to the fact that this year's final will include Couple's Choice routines.

The negative reaction from fans at the news was reported by Chronicle Live. The publication said that some fans have been calling for Strictly bosses to step in.

Strictly has faced its fair share of controversy over decisions about who should or shouldn't go through to the next stage of the competition. It's a theme encountered by many 'knock out' shows based on public voting and, in the case of Strictly, judges decisions.

With Will Mellor and Nancy Xu leaving the show in the semi finals, now just four couples are left to battle it out for the coveted Glitterball trophy - Helen Skelton, Hamza Yassin, Fleur East, Molly Rainford and their respective professional dancer partners. Bookies' favourites to win the title are Hamza and Jowita. Also hotly tipped are Helen and Gorka.

However, while all four couples have scored numerous 10s over the course of the last month, only Fleur and Vito have scored a perfect 40 of 40 - their full house of 10s coming for their Couple's Choice routine to a Destiny's Child megamix in Blackpool. They've picked that showstopper to reprise in the final.

Fleur and Vito aren't the only ones putting their faith in a Couple's Choice dance. Helen and Gorka will perform their nearly perfect Mein Herr, which scored 39 in Musicals Week, while Hamza and Jowita will once again dance to Jerusalema Remix by Master KG featuring Burna Boy and Nomcebo Zikode.

It was this factor that stirred comment from fans on social media. On seeing that the final will feature Couple's Choices, one Twitter user said: "Don't think the couples choice dances should be allowed to be picked. That seems unfair as they always do well with having less rules!" Taking the same stance, another added: "They shouldn’t be allowed choose their couples choices! That kinda defeats the purpose of the show dance!"

Calling for action on the ruling, a third person wrote: "I think the producers need to address the issue of Couple’s Choice. It always felt unfair even in its original incarnation, but with all rules dropped now, it’s become another showdance. Which means three of the four finalists are effectively performing two showdances in the final!"
