Barcelona has taken steps to include Dani Olmo in their matchday squad for the upcoming fixture against Athletic Club at the Olympic Stadium. The 26-year-old player recently joined Barça from RB Leipzig for an initial €55 million but is yet to be officially registered with LaLiga due to the club's financial constraints.
Barcelona currently exceeds their annual spending limit set by LaLiga, which is calculated based on the club's revenue minus non-sporting expenses and debt repayments. To accommodate Olmo's registration, the team must reduce their wage bill or increase revenue through player departures.
Despite missing the season opener against Valencia, Olmo has been named in the squad for the Athletic match, pending final registration with LaLiga. The club is actively working on player exits to meet the requirements for Olmo's inclusion.

Confirmed departures include Ilkay Gündogan to Manchester City, with Clément Lenglet, Mikayil Faye, and Vitor Roque also nearing exits. Lenglet is expected to extend his contract until 2027 and join Atlético Madrid on loan. Faye is set to move to Rennes for €14 million, while Roque will join Real Betis on loan.
Midfielder Fermín López returns to the squad after a successful summer with Spain at the European Championships and the Olympics. However, Andreas Christensen will be sidelined for several weeks due to an Achilles injury.
Barcelona continues to face absences from Ronald Araújo, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and Ansu Fati due to long-term injuries. Coach Hansi Flick expressed confidence in managing the team's challenges and optimizing player availability for upcoming matches.
