B Smyth dead: Twerkoholic hip-hop singer dies aged 28 from respiratory failure

R&B and hip-hop artist B Smyth has died at the age of 28, his brother has confirmed.

The musician passed away of pulmonary fibrosis brother Denzil announced in a video message posted on the star's official Instagram page.

Smyth was best known for his single titled Twerkoholic, which had been streamed 13 million times on Spotify. It was first released in 2014, with "Part 2" arriving last month.

Denzil posted a video telling Smyth's 158,000 followers his brother died on Thursday morning due to his lung condition. He said it was very tough to make the video on behalf of his family, before saying they accepted all the love and condolences people had already sent.

He captioned the clip: "Hello I’m Denzil #BSmyth brother and today regretfully I have to announce that my brother has passed away this morning from respiratory failure after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

"My brother was very excited to see a lot of you create challenges for his latest released single #Twerkoholic part 2 while he was in the ICU, it really brought him a big smile to his face."

He continued: "So on behalf of my brother and my family we want to say thank you to all of you for all of your love & support throughout the years. We ask for privacy during these difficult times. We also want to say thank you for all of your prayers. #RIPBSMYTH Love you bro!"

Fans and followers took to the post to send further messages. Among them, were singer Jacob Latimore and Canal Street actor Woody McClain.

Many others shared their disbelief at the news, with one following writing: "Man omg I just literally was on his page trying to see where he been at , this is so sad …I’m sending all of my condolences to you and your family."

Smyth, real name Brandon Smith, began his singing career on YouTube where he uploaded his music. His debut single in 2012 was titled Leggo and featured 2 Chains. The tune placed 12th on Billboard's Hot R&B.

Other songs included Win Win, which was released in 2013 and featured Future. More recently, he released I Love U So, Own My Heart and Plan B.
