Ashwani Vaishnav

New Delhi: Over a week has passed since the assembly election results were declared, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is still searching for the Chief Ministerial face in Rajasthan. Many names for the CM post are taking rounds.

Amidst the ongoing speculations, it is expected that Union Railway Minister Ashwani Kumar Vaishnav is going to be crowned as Chief Minister of Rajasthan, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

The BJP, which returned to power in Rajasthan after five years with a huge majority in the assembly, has appointed three observers for the election of the Chief Minister in the state. It is believed that the name of the CM of Rajasthan can be announced after the legislature party meeting to be held on Tuesday.

A day before the proposed meeting of the legislature party on Tuesday, reliable sources told Dynamite News that Jodhpur-born Ashwani Kumar Vaishnav, a former 1994 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre, is leading in the race for the post of CM with his strong profile.

Ashwani Vaishnav is currently the Union Minister of Railways, Communications and IT. He is M.Tech from IIT Kanpur. He also has an MBA degree from London.

Vaishnav, who secured rank 27 in UPSC exam, has considerable experience in bureaucracy. He has held many important posts in Odisha including District Collector. He has also been the Deputy Secretary in the PMO during Atal Bihari Vajpayee Govt.

Besides Ashwani Vaishnav, others among the contenders for the Rajasthan CM post include Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Baba Balaknath, Diya Kumari and former CM Vasundhara Raje Scindia. However, Baba Balaknath has indicated in a post on social media on Saturday that he is not in the race for the post of CM.
