Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Brentford captain Christian Norgaard.

Standard Sport reported on Tuesday that a £9.3m bid for Norgaard had been submitted and it now appears Mikel Arteta has got his man with the BBC reporting that the midfielder is set to undergo a medical.

The 31-year-old, also linked with Tottenham, is keen to play Champions League football and is said to favour a move to Arsenal, who finished second in the Premier League last season.

That would bring to an end his six-year stay at Brentford.

New Spurs boss Thomas Frank is keen on being swiftly reunited with Norgaard, but it is Arsenal who have made a move.

Norgaard, who signed a new two-year contract in March, enjoyed his best campaign in a Brentford shirt last season, playing 34 times in the league and scoring five goals.

However, the former Fiorentina man now looks set to follow Frank and Bryan Mbeumo - whose move to Manchester United appears imminent - in leaving the club this summer.

Arsenal had been trying to tie down midfielder Thomas Partey to a new deal, with the midfielder out of contract at the end of the month.

However, talks have hit an impasse, with Arsenal offering a salary reduction, and the Gunners have now turned their attention to Norgaard.

A cut-price deal for a player of Norgaard's experience and quality constitutes good business as Arteta's men prepare to compete on four fronts again next season.

Arsenal are close to completing the signing of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, but with Jorginho leaving for Flamengo earlier in the transfer window, Arsenal are looking for reinforcements in the centre of the park.

The Gunners have also been actively pursuing a striker since the start of the window.
