Arsenal forgotten signing sends timely reminder to Mikel Arteta after goalscoring heroics

Arsenal's American defender Auston Trusty has sent Gunners boss Mikel Arteta a timely reminder of his capabilities after scoring a 97th-minute winner in Birmingham City's 4-3 win over Swansea City on Saturday.

Trusty signed for Arsenal just over a year ago from Colorado Rapids but remained with the MLS side on loan for the remainder of last season. He was, again, swiftly sent out on loan in July, this time to the Championship and has won several admirers for his performances under John Eustace in the second city.

Having recently seen Polish prodigy Jakub Kiwior arrive at the Emirates Stadium to add depth to the left-sided defender role, Trusty's heroics could not have come at a better time as he attempts to avoid being forgotten about in north London.

Speaking to Birmingham's official club website after scoring the winner, Trusty claimed: "It is a great feeling - it is a feeling we needed, obviously, coming from the losses we have had in the past.

"It was just a feeling with all the goals and all of us celebrating, especially the last one with mine. Going to the fans, celebrating with the fans, all of my teammates coming up behind me, that is what you play for, that is why you play football."

Whilst endurance to that level is bound to impress Arteta, who faces a tough task in managing his squad between Premier League and European fixtures, Trusty admirably downplayed the achievement.

"I feel great, I'm just doing my thing and playing my game. I'm trying to take advantage of every opportunity and be that person for the team and for the squad. I'm having fun."

It remains to be seen what will happen to Trusty following the conclusion of this season, but he would have certainly grabbed Arteta's attention with his latest performance.
