Apple Is Internally Testing a ChatGPT-Like App for Siri

We all know that Apple has been lagging behind when it comes to the AI race, especially compared to its biggest rival, Google. However, it seems like the company is taking some serious steps to catch up. If we go by the latest Bloomberg report, Apple is internally testing a new ChatGPT-like app code-named Veritas to develop and refine its next-generation Siri.

Obviously, the app isn’t meant for public use. It’s a tool for Apple’s internal AI team to evaluate new features and models for Siri’s overhaul. It is said to allow employees to manage multiple conversations on different topics. Reference past follow-up on previous queries and test extended back-and-forth exchanges, similar to ChatGPT or Google Gemini. It also allows teams to test features like searching personal data. For example, music or emails, and performing in-app actions like editing photos. Structured feedback gathered via the app will help Apple decide which chat support approaches are worth implementing for end users.

Furthermore, Apple’s redesigned Siri, which is built on a new system called Linwood, will leverage large language models (LLMs), including Apple’s proprietary AI and third-party models. The company is currently exploring two variations, one running primarily on its own AI and another integrating external models, potentially from Google or Anthropic.

The goal here is expected to be a situation where Siri is eventually handling in-app actions via voice commands and maintaining a consistent personal context for smarter responses, and giving a ChatGPT-like search experience through a feature called answers.

But Apple has been cautious about launching a new standalone AI Chatbot for customers as the company wants a seamless integrated AI experience across its ecosystem rather than just a bolt-on feature. The next Siri updates are expected to arrive in early spring 2026, where we might see a glimpse of these new features.
