AppHarvest facilities throughout central and eastern Kentucky have new owners

The indoor growing facilities of AppHarvest have new owners. The sites are located in Morehead, Richmond, Berea, and Somerset.

The first facility to come under new management was the site in Berea. It was purchased by AppHarvest’s distribution partner, the Canada based Mastronardi Produce, back in December.

A Netherlands based company called Bosch Growers submitted the winning bid for the Somerset facility which grows cucumbers and strawberries.

The investment firm Equilibrium is a longtime backer of AppHarvest. Officials there submitted the only bid for the agri-tech company’s two tomato facilities in Morehead and Richmond.

AppHarvest filed for bankruptcy in July. AppHarvest employed over 800 workers, it is not clear what will happen with the sites acquired by Equilibrium. The Somerset location will be run as part of the Bosch Berries Kentucky company.
