Anthony Stewart handed Aberdeen transfer exit option as MK Dons consider late approach for Pittodrie captain

MK Dons are considering a late bid to take Aberdeen captain Anthony Stewart to English League One for their relegation scrap this term.

The English third tier side side have turned their attention to the experienced defender with time running out to get deals over the line, and have been looking to get a central defender in all day. They have now narrowed in on Stewart and are keen on the 30-year-old in the door just months after he arrived at Pittodrie. Stewart arrived from Wycombe Wanderers in the summer and was immediately handed the armband by then-boss Jim Goodwin, but with the manager sacked last week.

Stewart could now consider a return to England. Stewart has had a rollercoaster time in Scotland so far. He has come in for criticism after receiving red cards in the crucial moments for the club.

He was sent off in the Viaplay Cup semi-final against Rangers. With the game heading into extra-time, Stewart launched into a lunging tackle and was shown a straight red card. He was also sent off earlier in the Premiership campaign in the defeat to St Mirren.
