Animal is opening a new store in Mumbles

Surfwear and clothing store Animal is opening a new store in Mumbles, it's been confirmed.

Eagle-eyed locals spotted a poster in the window of the former Neon Sheep store in Mumbles Road on Thursday evening, which said: "animal. New store. We are hiring."

It comes just days after gift and homeware shop, Neon Sheep, closed down in the unit, less than three years after opening its doors to customers.

Animal sells a range of men's, women's and kids' clothing and accessories including tops, trousers, swimwear, jackets and coats, hoodies and sweatshirts, flip flops, hats, gloves, towels, socks and bags.

The new store is due to open on Friday, February 11 and the company is actively recruiting new staff.

Among the roles available, Animal is looking to recruit an assistant manager for the store. Anyone interested in this role or others available is advised to enquire at the adjoining Mountain Warehouse store or look out for jobs on Indeed.com.

Fans of the Animal brand will be pleased to see the store open in Mumbles, especially after its stores in Swansea's Quadrant Centre and Llanelli's Trostre Retail Park closed in December, 2020.

At the time, company owner, H Young Holdings, said the Poole-based business was set to close down by January, 2021, due to the "extremely challenging" retail market.

The Quadrant Centre store had been a fixture of the shopping centre for 13 years and employed seven members of staff, all of whom were made redundant when the store closed.

Then-manager of the store, Kyle Riseley said: "It is just a tough time, we've been here in the Quadrant for 13 years, and the company has been running since 1987. It's only us and Trostre left open.

"Our customers say they are absolutely devastated, a lot have grown up with that traditional surfer look. It's a little bit bleak for the staff, it's like a sort of impending doom, but we're trying to stay chipper for the customers."

Animal is now owned by Mountain Warehouse which is located next to the old Neon Sheep shop
