Andhra Pradesh: School assistant suspended after suicide of topper

TIRUPATI: A school assistant was suspended after a class X student allegedly committed suicide at Gangavaram, under Palamaner assembly constituency in Chittoor district, as she was removed from the school. The girl was a class topper and in her suicide note she alleged that she was given a transfer certificate and removed from the school to promote another student.

According to police, Misbah Fathima, who was scheduled to appear in the SSC board examinations next month, committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her home three days ago. While initially her family members alleged that she was ill-treated by the school principal, Ramesh, who also works as a school assistant at the ZP high school in Gangavaram. He went to the extent of serving her a TC for no reason just before the end of the academic year.

She left behind a four-page suicide note. Fathima said being a topper of her class was her curse, as one of her classmates who could not match her in studies, pressurised the school management to get her (Fathima) ousted from the school so that she could come first in the class. Fathima, who called her father a hero and her inspiration, asked him to forgive her for taking the extreme step. Though the incident took place three days ago, the letter left behind by the student came to light only on Thursday. Fathima's sister Haseena alleged that local police too were hand in glove with the accused.
