Andhra Pradesh: Discoms to distribute transformers to farmers

Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APCPDCL), headquartered at Vijayawada, will distribute power transformers to provide free electricity to the newly released 50,280 agricultural services in its jurisdiction on June 28, Tuesday.

People’s representatives will distribute these transformers to the farmers at a programme that will be conducted in Vijayawada on Tuesday. The APCPDCL will also conduct the programme in Ongole and Guntur circles on the same day.

APCPDCL chairman and managing director J Padma Janardhana Reddy briefed about the programme to state energy minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy and special chief secretary (energy) K Vijayanand in a teleconference on Monday.

The CMD said the state government has released 50,280 new agricultural connections under the purview of APCPDCL “The APCPDCL is providing transformers to the agricultural connection free of cost under HVDS (high voltage distribution system) scheme. The energy department/discoms will also bear the expenditure of electrical lines up to 180 meters apart from the expenditure of the transformers,” said Janardhana Reddy.

The CMD added that while the state has decided to implement direct benefit transfer (DBT) as part of reforms initiated by the Centre, it has taken all necessary steps to protect the interests of farmers.
