99-year-old woman left shaken after being hit with eggs at bus stop in Dublin

A 99-year-old woman had eggs thrown at her while waiting for a bus outside IKEA in Dublin

The shocking attack happened at around 3.30pm on Friday in the aftermath of a day out with her daughter while she was waiting to return home on St Margaret's Road..

The disgusting incident was explained by her daughter on RTE Liveline.

She said: "It missed me but that was okay. She's fine. She got a shock. It was a bit upsetting for her. She had me. I was with her. I was able to stand up for her.

"Some other person might have been by themselves. It's inappropriate. I couldn't understand why someone would think that's funny."

'Rachel' explained that her mother is not afraid to leave the house after the egging, because she had spent a long time of the pandemic so far cocooning.

She said: "We will go out. We are not going to let this stop her. She spent two years of Covid doing all the right things. We were only starting to go places now. It's a shock to anyone's confidence."

However, another caller maybe took things to the extreme when he urged "we need to allow the police to start shooting people, Joe"

The shocking incident is one of a number against elderly people in recent days.

An elderly man has been in a serious condition in hospital after a group of men assaulted him when he confronted them while they were attempting to steal from his shed.

Gardai in Leixlip are appealing for any witnesses following the aggravated burglary on Tuesday night.

At around 9.30pm, a number of men managed to break into a lockup shed at home in Adrass Lower, Celbridge, Co Kildare.

As they were attempting to remove property from the shed, the 72 -year-old man disturbed them and was assaulted.
