Walmart is known for having dependably low prices and saving shoppers money, but sometimes it sneaks in some items that you can get for less elsewhere. Some of its fall items, for example, can be found for much cheaper at Dollar Tree.

Here are some fall and Halloween items you may want to pick up at Dollar Tree over Walmart, or you’ll be losing money.
Hanging Ghost Decorations
- Walmart price: $14.99
- Dollar Tree price: $4.50 (for three)
Looking for ways to make your home a little spookier for Halloween? A hanging ghost on the front porch is a great touch, but you may want to reconsider going to Walmart to get it. For a pack of three 36-inch ghosts, Walmart is charging $10 more than Dollar Tree.
They are the same size ghosts; the only real difference is that Dollar Tree doesn’t sell the ghosts in a pack of three, but for $1.50 each.

Ceramic Pumpkin
- Walmart price: $13.11 (regularly $14.99)
- Dollar Tree price: $1.50
For one decorative ceramic pumpkin, you’ll spend significantly more at Walmart than at Dollar Tree, though Walmart’s version is slightly larger. Another advantage for Dollar Tree? It offers multiple colors of pumpkins, including white, green and orange. Walmart’s version offers only a white pumpkin.
Maple Leaf Dishes
- Walmart price: $12.87
- Dollar Tree price: $4.50 (for three)
This is another case where, while Dollar Tree sells the items individually, it still has the better deal. Each dish costs $1.50 at Dollar Tree, while a three-pack at Walmart breaks down to $4.29 a dish. You’re basically getting three Dollar Tree dishes for the price of one Walmart dish.
Pumpkin Mug
- Walmart price: $9.99
- Dollar Tree price: $1.50
Sipping a pumpkin spice latte just tastes better from a pumpkin mug, and you’ll find the sweetest price at Dollar Tree. Though Walmart’s version does have a jack-o-lantern face, it’s probably not worth the extra $8 just for that. Plus, the Dollar Tree mug holds 18 ounces, while the Walmart mug holds only 11 ounces.
LED Skeleton Lights
- Walmart price: $11.99
- Dollar Tree price: $7.00
Both versions of these skeleton LED lights are cute, but you can save about $5 by getting them at Dollar Tree. Walmart’s do come with colorful lights, but for the $5 savings, it might be worth it to have them all be one color. Dollar Tree’s version also comes with 20 skeletons, while Walmart’s string has only 10.
Fall Kitchen Towels
- Walmart price: $15.99
- Dollar Tree price: $6.00 (for four)
Walmart is selling a pack of four towels with sayings like “Hello Pumpkin” and “Happy Fall” and other fall symbols. Dollar Tree, on the other hand, is selling individual fall towels for $1.50, so buying four is still cheaper than getting the four-pack at Walmart.
Editor’s note: Pricing and availability may vary depending on location.
