Boston (AFP) - A US airman accused of leaking top-secret documents had a history of making "violent" statements and owned numerous weapons, federal prosecutors alleged as a judge heard his request for bail Thursday.

Federal prosecutors urged that the defendant, Jack Teixeira, remain in jail pending trial. Teixeira, an Air National guardsman, is accused of illegally sharing Pentagon secrets on a gaming site.

A U.S. Air National Guardsman accused of leaking military secrets appeared in federal court on Thursday, where a judge expressed concern the 21-year-old's knowledge of classified material might be valuable to a foreign government.

The airman is a "risk both to the national security of the United States and to the community," prosecutors said.
