NEW YORK: Layoffs that began in 2022 are accelerating across some technology companies.

Washington (AFP) - Amazon announced Wednesday it will cut more than 18,000 jobs from its workforce, citing "the uncertain economy" and the fact the online retail giant had "hired rapidly" during the pandemic.

In November, the e-commerce company had announced a layoff expectation of about 10,000. Today's announcement is a substantial increase.
