US Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson defended her record of sentencing in child pornography cases and advocacy for terror suspects as she was grilled Tuesday in her bid to be the first Black woman on the country’s highest judicial bench.

WASHINGTON — Ketanji Brown Jackson on Tuesday rolled unscathed through a marathon day of questioning for her nomination to the Supreme Court, as some of the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee spent time on outside issues peripheral to her qualifications.

If confirmed, the Harvard graduate would bring a unique perspective to the Supreme Court, dominated by white men for more than 200 years. As the Senate Judiciary Committee chair points out, "it's not easy being the first".

Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said Jackson, the first Black female Supreme Court nominee, is “a living witness to the fact that, in America, all is possible.”
