The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recalled the products linked to the outbreak and warned consumers not to eat, sell or serve them.

At least 17 people in more than a dozen states were hospitalized with salmonella poisoning linked to recalled whole and pre-cut fruit. The recalled products were sold in the U.S. and Canada.

Carniceria Guanajuato has been linked to at least 55 cases of Salmonella, according to the Chicago Department of Public Health. So far, six of those people have been hospitalized.

Half of the people infected in the outbreak reported having contact with turtle with shells smaller than four inches wide. Owning pet turtles of that size is prohibited by federal law.
