News comes as leading network star criticizes management for decision to cancel shows hosted by non-white anchors

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow criticized her own network for axing Joy Reid and canceling shows anchored by non-white women.

‘When you are in the midst of a crisis, and specifically a crisis of democracy, how do you resist? When fascism isn’t just coming, it’s already here,’ Joy Reid told viewers during her final MSNBC show.

‘I think it is a bad mistake to let her walk out the door,’ Rachel Maddow said on Monday night. ‘It is not my call, and I understand that. But that’s what I think.’

The network also canceled several other programs and expanded others, leaving a number of on-air personalities to shift to new roles.

‘MSNBC fired Joy Reid, and yes it is racist and maybe worse,’ Keith Olbermann said on Monday. ‘Yes, it is designed to keep out people who might think differently.’

Much of the recent ratings growth is thanks to Rachel Maddow returning full-time to weeknights. Last week, her show topped 2 million viewers for the first time since Trump’s election.

“More than ever,” Maddow said in her Monday night broadcast, “this is not a time to pretend this isn’t happening"
