Three press associations have expressed concern over the detention of several journalists in recent months in Bihar’s Vaishali and Muzaffarpur districts. It has also called on Bihar CM Nitish Kumar “to educate the administration and the police about the proper functioning of the media”.

In a joint letter, the Press Club of India, Indian Women Press Corp, Press Association, Foreign Correspondent Club and the Delhi Union of Journalists express dismay at the Election Commission not holding a single press conference even after the completion of voting in three phases across the country.

Up to 500 people looted shops, set fire to vehicles and threw rocks at crowd control officers. The violence was sparked by rumors that a foreign national was responsible for a knife attack outside a Dublin school.
