Bengaluru South BJP MP Tejasvi Surya blames the State government for the delay in implementing the suburban rail project and calls for full control of Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Ltd (KRide) by the Union government.

The government aims to complete the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project by December 2027, contradicting the initial deadline of December 2025.

In June 2021, K-RIDE decided to deprioritise the project as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) had already initiated the tender process for its airport line. Consequently, K-RIDE opted to focus on developing other unconnected routes instead, according to sources in K-RIDE.

Four firms have participated in the tender of civil work for the Bengaluru suburban rail project’s corridor-4 (Kanaka line) that is from Heelalige to Rajankunte.

On Friday, Air Force authorities and Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Ltd. (K-RIDE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for transfer of the latter’s land at Jalahalli for the Bengaluru suburban rail project. The land is required for execution of corridor-2 (Mallige line) of the project from Benniganahalli to Chikkabanavara.
