Sajad Lone’s Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) on June 7 said Jammu and Kashmir was witnessing a continuous denial of democracy and urged all the political parties not to visit J&K as part of Parliament Standing Committees.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader said that while polls in Kashmir are important, more urgent is the restoration of basic democratic rights of the people there.

The Hurriyat and the J&K Peoples Conference (JKPC) on May 21 commemorated the death anniversaries of their party leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq and Abdul Ghani Lone, who were assassinated in two separate incidents on May 21 in 1990 and 2002 respectively.

ecurity has been tightened across J&K in the run-up to the event.

PDP on May 2, 2023 held a meeting of the members of its Political Affairs Committee in Srinagar and underlined the need to maintain peace along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, and revive SAARC as a platform for lasting peace in J&K.  

The Army statement came a day after the Jammu and Kashmir Police pointed at local support for militants who attacked an Army truck in Poonch on April 20, which left five soldiers dead.

When Panchayat elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir in 2018, two former chief ministers of the erstwhile state Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti termed the polls as a "futile exercise." Read further on Dynamite News:
