Confirmation of the split after what will be four seasons has been provided by Ganassi managing director Mike Hull, who told Autosport that “we are ending this chapter” of a long relationship with Cadillac parent company General Motors that has straddled IndyCars, NASCAR and Extreme E as well as sportscars. 

Although no one appeared to have the pace to keep up with Josef Newgarden, who led 92 of 100 laps en route to a Team Penske 1-3-4, O’Ward’s No. 5 Arrow McLaren was lurking for the majority of the race before fading late to finish 7.9121s at the checkered flag.

Newgarden had dominated the early stages in his Chevrolet-powered Team Penske car from pole position, but an early caution period – caused by Marcus Armstrong’s crash – led to a round of pitstops under yellow during which he dropped to third after a slow rejoin from his pitbox.

The 30-year-old New Zealander started ninth for the 100-lap contest that opened the 2024 season for the IndyCar Series. However, it didn’t take long for the No. 3 Team Penske Chevrolet to quickly move forward.
