The depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 intensified into a Deep Depression and lay centred in the same region

A well-marked low-pressure area lies over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm on May 10, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on May 3 said that a cyclone could likely form at the Bay of Bengal by early next week, however its strength, direction and impact on India was yet to gauged. 

IMD issued a yellow alert for six districts on Wednesday warning of isolated heavy rains. Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram are likely to receive isolated thundershowers accompanied by lightning and gusty wind
