Police in the Irish capital Dublin have arrested 34 people after suspected far-right protesters attacked police and set fire to vehicles Thursday night following the stabbing of three children earlier in the day.

Rioters who torched vehicles and looted shops in Dublin following a knife attack outside a school brought "shame" on Ireland, Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said on Friday, condemning the worst violence in decades which authorities blamed on right-wing groups.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said 32 people will appear before court on Friday.

Vehicles were set on fire and stores looted after three children and a woman were wounded in a knife attack. Witnesses tried to disarm the assailant.

Violent clashes broke out in Dublin on Thursday evening after a 5-year-old girl was seriously injured in a knife attack earlier in the day that also saw a woman and two other children hospitalized.

Protests in Dublin city centre spiralled into a night of violence and disorder following the attack which left four people injured.

Riot police were stationed outside the Irish parliament building late on Thursday evening as they responded to unprecedented scenes.

Police say they have not ruled out any motive behind stabbing incident, and warn against spread of ‘misinformation’.

Earlier three young children and a woman were injured in and attack in the Parnell Square area.
