The annual music extravaganza returned to Douglass Park in full force this year.

I am a lifelong Chicago resident, for 63 years. I have been inconvenienced by sporting and other events and numerous street festivals and parades. This is what I have come to expect living in a large urban area.

CHICAGO — As criticism mounts over the use of public parks for large-scale events put on by private companies, leaders at the Chicago Park District are moving to change their code to mandate a board vote to sign off on events with more than 10,000 daily attendees.

The three-day music festival starts Friday, but some West Side leaders say it’s detrimental to the health of nearby communities.

We love music and are not against music festivals, but they should never have been put in Douglass Park.

The park district should have a sit-down with the community about the frequency and size of music events and reach an arrangement that benefits residents.

After a heated community meeting, neighborhood groups are calling for artists to drop out of the weekend music festival as they continue to push for changes to how the West Side park is used.

CHICAGO — With a community-led movement to evict big-ticket music festivals from Douglass Park gaining steam, Riot Fest management has let go its event organizer and apologized to the community for his “tone” at a neighborhood meeting last week that only seemed to exacerbate the festival’s fraught relationship with residents.

CHICAGO — Riot Fest on Wednesday announced its lineup for 2022, with headliners Nine Inch Nails joining the previously announced My Chemical Romance and Original Misfits over three days in September in Chicago’s Douglass Park. Other standouts include Sleater-Kinney, Alkaline Trio and Ice Cube. Tickets are on sale now.

The three-day event is set for Douglass Park in June.
