The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has put out an alert about a bird flu outbreak after reports of a death in Cambodia.

Health authorities in Cambodia say the father of an 11-year-old girl who died this week after contracting bird flu has tested positive for the virus but has not displayed any major symptoms

The test results of 11 additional contacts of the girl, 3 or 4 of which are reportedly symptomatic, have not yet returned.

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia reported an 11-year-old girl from a province east of the capital Phnom Penh died after being infected by the H5N1 strain of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu.

The mortality rate currently sits between 50% and 60%, according to the WHO and other sources.
