Her rebuke condemns conservative majority’s ‘let-them-eat-cake obliviousness’ to legacy of racism

The Supreme Court's ruling deems that diversity is no longer a compelling interest for university admission.

Affirmative action died Thursday at the hands of the Supreme Court’s conservative constitutional revolution. In a 6-3 decision, written by Chief Justice John Roberts, the court overturned nearly 50 years of precedent and held that it’s unconstitutional for universities to take account of racial diversity in their admissions.

The former president said “affirmative action wasn’t perfect. But it allowed generations of students like Michelle and me to prove we belonged.”
