- New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced that 1,000 World Cup tickets will be available for $50 for New Yorkers.
- “1,000 World Cup tickets. $50 each. All for New Yorkers. We fought hard to make the people’s game available to the people — and won. Let the summer of soccer begin,” Mamdani wrote on Thursday.
- A lottery for the tickets will open on May 25 at 10 a.m. ET and run for six days. A total of 50,000 people will be able to enter each drawing and randomly selected winners will be notified on June 3 via email. You can only enter once per day.
- If you win the chance to buy a ticket, you’ll have 48 hours to purchase up to two, and tickets are non transferable. More information is available on a website set up for the drawings.
- Anyone buying tickets may be asked to verify their identity and residency through official IDs, pay stubs, rental or mortgage agreements and recent utility bills. You’ll pick up tickets in person on match day before boarding a free round trip bus to MetLife.
