A 31-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of a baby girl in Perth's northern suburbs last year.

The three-month-old was taken to hospital with brain injuries after an incident at a Girrawheen home on March 12 and died two days later.

Zach Meier faced a charge of murder but it was downgraded to manslaughter in the Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.

He will remain in custody until he is sentenced in the WA Supreme Court on December 20.

His relationship to the baby is unclear, but it is understood he was not her father.

He was arrested on the day the baby died and charged with causing grievous bodily harm.

The charge was upgraded to murder just over a fortnight later.
