Yves Bissouma's medical, Christian Eriksen's decision and the role for Spurs' new young keeper

Oliver Grant: "Is Yves Bissouma likely to be announced this week?"

Alasdair says: "Bissouma was set to fly to the UK on Wednesday and after staying overnight in The Lodge, we're expecting the medical at Hotspur Way on Thursday and if all the personal terms are tied up quickly, which seems to be the case, then we should see the deal announced by the end of the week. This is Spurs though so you can never entirely rule out another couple of random days chucked on the end while they going through all of their processes, but this shouldn't need to drag out at this point."

MAXNG97: "Is there any update on Christian Eriksen? He seems the most logical option for the creative midfielder. If for some reason he doesn’t join, who else is on the list?"

Alasdair says: "The decision is now down to the Dane. He's got multiple offers to mull over and he's already said that he's not going to rush his decision as it has to be the right one for him and his family. I was told towards the end of the season that he was keen to remain in London and that would certainly appear to favour Spurs and perhaps Brentford. He still has a big affection for Tottenham even if I understand he didn't leave the club on the best of terms with the hierarchy two and a half years ago.

"Then there's the Conte factor with the Italian knowing him well and starting him on a regular basis in the second half of Inter's title-winning season. If Eriksen trusts that he can handle Conte's physical demands then it's a move - and a free one - that makes sense for Spurs as it allows the head coach to switch to a 3-5-2 whenever he wants. This is not the Eriksen that left the club either. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since then.

"There is also the Manchester United interest of course and it will be interesting to see whether the chance to play back on the biggest stage with Spurs in the Champions League lures him back or whether he wants another new challenge.

"If he decides against Spurs then, among others, the club have also been looking at Lyon's Brazil international Lucas Paqueta, a player Newcastle tried to sign earlier this year. The versatile 24-year-old can play in an attacking midfield role, centrally or on the right and can also play up front when required.

"When it comes to homegrown options, Tottenham have long held an interest in Leicester star James Maddison, having considered signing him before his move to the Foxes and he is now in the last two years of his contract, but I'd think that's a tough deal to do."

Sanskar: "What are the updates on our hunt for a left-sided centre-back? Who are the other options?"

Alasdair says: "On the left you've of course got Spurs' top two targets for the role in Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni and RB Leipzig's Josko Gvardiol, who are tough to prise away right now. The Bastoni door won't be entirely closed until Inter can bring in the money they need this summer but Spurs will have to decide whether they can hang around and wait.

"The next name is Villarreal's Pau Torres. The Spaniard turned down a move to Tottenham last summer, but the north London club are a different proposition this year with Conte at the helm and Champions League football to offer. Villarreal are also keen to sign Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso which could help any discussions over the fee. Spurs' main opposition is set to be Manchester United who have also been tracking the 25-year-old for some time.

"Barcelona's Clement Lenglet, who turned down a loan move to Spurs last summer, is another option. I understand Monaco have shown an interest in Davinson Sanchez and I do wonder whether Spurs might look at Benoit Badiashile, their France U21 international left-sided centre-back if any discussions take place."

Bash04: "I've read some of your pieces on Conte being restricted in terms of substitutions he could make in games and that signings like Eriksen and Richarlison could help that. Do you know if Eriksen would take that sort of role on?"

Alasdair says: "I think anyone signed this summer, Forster and perhaps a striker aside, will be in there to battle for a first team spot. Nobody will consider themselves a bench player. When I say the striker role, that's a bit different because anyone who comes in is likely to understand they're not going to start every week. Even if Conte were to play with two up front it'll be Kane and Son. That's not to say that whoever comes in can't make their case to start regularly but they'll know that it will take a bit of time, or an injury to others. In midfield there's more of a battle to be had from the start."

NateS32: "You mentioned about Dele Alli, is part of the payment structure based off starts or appearances?"

Alasdair says: "From what I was told it was starts, which obviously makes getting the money that bit trickier."

Jon.vw:"With Ivan Perisic a spurs player now, do we expect to see him in a left wing-back role? Since he is right-footed, could we see him in a right wing-back role instead and see Emerson Royal leave and keep Reguilon and Sessegnon on the left?"

Alasdair says: "I think he could be used on either side but primarily he seems to have been a left wing-back in recent seasons since Conte converted him. He'll also be able to play up in more advanced positions. Who goes will be dictated by the bids that come in. There's interest in both Emerson and Reguilon but Spurs will want to get back what they paid for both players - or in Reguilon's case are about to have to start paying."

Atrack: "Any word on if Steven Bergwijn will be gone soon?"

Alasdair says: "Steven Bergwijn wants to go and Ajax want him, but neither will get their wish unless they get closer to the £27m Spurs paid for him in 2020. I like Bergwijn and I must admit I'll be sad to see him go but he needs regular starts, particularly ahead of the World Cup. It's likely to be a matter of when rather than if he moves."

MattSpurs79: "With Conte only having 12 months left on his contract is there a bit of a risk for Spurs in spending lots of money to build a team set up for 3-5-2 and Conte? Any replacement may want more conventional full-backs for a flat back four rather than wing-backs, or is there any chance of a Conte contract extension?"

Alasdair says: "It's pretty much what Spurs did with Emerson Royal and Nuno Espirito Santo. I think you have to buy players that suit that manager if you're not going to employ managers to fit a set, consistent style. You don't really have much choice. As for Conte, he's very well paid and there's an option already there, if both sides agree to it, to extend his contract by another year. I'd imagine if Spurs are flying out of the gate or he feels the ambition around him then either that option will be triggered or a new longer deal will be thrashed out."

James Macpherson: "When you’re in the press box do you celebrate if it’s a big goal or do you always remain impartial?"

Alasdair says: "I'm there as a journalist not a fan. If there's a goal I need to write about it so I need to remain objective and crack on with my work."

George93: "What will be Josh Keeley's role in the squad next season, will it be to play in U21s or do you think he could push for the third choice with Austin and Whiteman going out on loan?"

Alasdair says: "At just 19-years-old, he'll be one for the U23s squad. He's very young and was just starting to get the odd chance in St Patrick's first team over in Ireland, but was still a young-back there as a young professional. Spurs let four academy goalkeepers go at the end of their contracts this summer so for the talented young Keeley and Gunter it will be about filling that void."

Sanskar: "Do we intend to use the entirety of the 150 million budget in this transfer window?"

Alasdair says: "The plan is to use the bulk of that £150m cash injection in this summer transfer window, plus anything that comes in through player sales."

michaelglovercoys: "How close are the Djed Spence and Yves Bissouma deals to being completed?"

Alasdair says: "Bissouma is just a matter of days, with the medical set for Thursday, and with Djed Spence it's about Spurs and Middlesbrough agreeing on a price. The young wing-back is believed to favour a move to Tottenham and he's attracted by the prospect of Champions League football but the north London side will have to find common ground over a price first."
