TIRUPATI: A ruling YSRCP local leader was brutally attacked by unidentified assailants and murdered at Kamalapuram in YSR district on Andhra Pradesh on Friday.
According to Kamalapuram CI Sathya Babu, the deceased was identified as Shankar Reddy (54), a resident of Kamalapuram town.
Local police said Shankar Reddy was attacked by unidentified miscreants when he went to his farmlands near Moolagadda.
The unidentified assailants hit Shankar Reddy with sticks and stones, killed him on the spot and escaped.
Kamalapuram police rushed to the crime scene and shifted the body of the deceased for postmortem.
Kamalapuram MLA Ravindranath Reddy too visited the crime scene and expressed condolences to the victim's family members. He appealed to the police to conduct a thorough investigation and arrest those guilty of this brutal murder.
Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased told the police that Shankar Reddy's son had recently eloped and married a girl belonging to their rival's family and that they suspect the rival gang linked to the girl's family could be involved in Shankar Reddy's murder.
