THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vithura police on Wednesday arrested a 21-year-old man hailing from Ernakulam district on charges of sexually abusing a minor girl. The police identified the accused as Joyson, 21, of North Paravur in Ernakulam district.
The police said the accused was arrested following an investigation that was launched after he was taken into custody from the close proximity of a girls’ school, where he was found lurking suspiciously on Tuesday. He was spotted and taken into custody by a patrol squad led by sub inspector Sudheesh.
While in custody,he told the police that he went there to meet a girl. Following this, the police contacted the girl’s family and gave her a counselling session. During the session she revealed that he sexually abused her six months ago. Following this she was sent to medical examination and the doctor confirmed sexual abuse.
The police said the accused met the girl through Facebook. He later secured her phone number and started communicating with her. The accused later started visiting her occasionally. It was during one such visit, he sexually exploited the girl.
Man held for attacking police:
Nedumangad police on Thursday arrested a 26-year-old man on charges of attacking police officers and vandalising police vehicle. Police identified the accused as Abu Thahir of Kummippalli . The police team was responding to a call received at police control room that Abu Thahir was causing nuisance to the public at Kummippalli around 1 am on Thursday. When the police team reached the spot, the accused grabbed crushed rocks and hurled at the police vehicle, damaging the front windshield.
