I read the sentence "I've been living out of a suitcase for two years" and I am meant to be jealous? I don't think so.

When your peripatetic workers need a haircut, to buy food, to have the loo unblocked or a laptop repaired, it will be by a hairdresser, grocer, plumber and electrician who has no choice but to live near their place of work. Their lifestyles rely on mainly low-paid workers who do not have the luxury of living wherever their fancy takes them. To pretend we can all live like this is a pernicious fantasy.
Owen Wells
Ilkley, West Yorkshire

What did Esther Freud mean when she wrote, of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, "that Glasgow School of Art would be his first and last project"? Who does she think was responsible for, among others, The Hill House, the Glasgow Herald Building, Ruchill Church Hall, Queen's Cross Church, the Daily Record Building, Martyrs' School, Scotland Street School and 78 Derngate?
Susan Bittker
Edinburgh

My experience of the education system was eerily similar to Lucy Mangan's. As a result, I became good at retaining a lot of useless information. Presumably this is why I know it was Dolly, the fanatical Daily Mail aficionado, not Jean, who made the Tony Blair remark. Being a massive Victoria Wood fan helps, too.
Patricia Cooper
Bolton

My son, a star pupil according to all his teachers, just got B, B and C in A-level art, music and English lit. We were both disappointed, but I felt better when he said, "These results don't define me." I'm so grateful to Lucy Mangan for making me feel we are not alone.

Johanna Hall's GP is wrong not to refer her to a sleep clinic, because a formal diagnosis can provide workplace protection under disability legislation. I, too, have the syndrome, and after a lifetime of unhappy mornings, diagnosis was a relief. It also meant I could ask my employer for an occupational health assessment, which led to a "reasonable adjustment" to my schedule – I was allowed a later start to the working day. My productivity improved, as did my quality of life.
K Flynn
Barnt Green, Worcestershire

"An attempt was made to seize material that might have cast [Hitler] in an embarrassing light" isn't going to mean much to a five-year-old. Maybe the grown-ups should ask the children questions – at least they'd have some chance of understanding the answers.
Sarah Burne James
London W6

After reading Tim Dowling's 16 August column, I'm now looking forward to a future Experience entitled, "I invented a revolutionary crane but no one would listen. Then I met Tim Dowling's band."
Nigel Woodcock
Manchester

The fika is a great Swedish tradition that I have missed in the English workplace. It is not only a time to talk, laugh, plan the day and recharge, but it also helps break down hierarchical rules. I have very fond memories of being a young nursing student and witnessing our feisty cleaner berating the consultant for not passing the butter. When else would that happen? More importantly, fika is what makes good team work.
Linda Hasselmyr

Um, Philip Treacy, apologies for shattering your lovely, elegant existence, but no one liked Bea's hat. Sorry.
Angela McKenna
Ballymoney, County Antrim, Ireland
