The That’s Me In The Picture 2015 Special was very moving, and I was particularly gratified to read Mike Weir’s views on Hilary Benn’s speech. I am not “in the picture”, but I was outside parliament demonstrating. At the point of voting, some of us were tiring and getting hoarse. Suddenly, an elderly man waving a Syrian flag started bellowing, “Don’t bomb Syria”. He went on and on, until he collapsed. He was taken away in an ambulance at the very moment we learned we were going to bomb Syria, and the tears started to flow. It was one of the most miserable moments of my life, but I’m so glad I was there.

With all the bad things in football at the moment – Sepp, Fifa bungs, bans, diving, Manchester United – it was the sheer, unbridled joy of England’s women celebrating a goal that moved me the most in your That’s Me In The Picture special.

What a beautiful story from Iraqi refugee Laith Majid Al-Amirij, and an amazing photograph. I wish him and his family the very best – he definitely made the right decision for them.

As a hairy feminist artist’s model of many years’ standing, I enjoyed The Naked Truth. But I would like to add that modelling is hard work: even the most comfortable-looking pose can soon become uncomfortable, and there is an art to remaining still for long periods.

Like Jonathan Freedland, I did Desert Island Discs for my dying brother three years ago, and it was the best thing I ever did. We now have a wonderful record of his life, passions and sense of humour for his family to cherish, and I would recommend something similar to anyone in the same situation. The only good thing about cancer is that you often have time to create more of a legacy than snatches of phone messages or texts.

As I’m doing my post-Christmas thank-yous, I’d like to thank you for the joy of reading Clive James again. His few words on the jubilation over the signing of a piece of paper in Paris said more than thousands of other commentators.

I wonder whether Sheila Duffy got that Mini started. I owned a newish one about 20 years ago and it wouldn’t start if there was even just a whiff of drizzle in the damp air.

Our 2015 stats for the Quiz showed another decline (our average score slipped from 6.8 to 6.7), and 2016 seems set to be no better: on 2 January, we got 6.5 – and, yes, we do award half-marks for near-misses.
