Your grass called, and it's thirsty – so I've found a $21 sprinkler that can save it from going brown in the heatwave, hydrating an entire lawn in seconds

An aerial view of a man mowing the grass in his backyard.

The heatwave has arrived and I would be lying if I said I'm not feeling a little nervous. Yes, I'm ready to soak up the sun with friends and family, but ever since moving into a home with a large lawn, threats of hot dry spells leave me a little anxious for my yard. Luckily, Amazon Prime Day is serving the perfect solution, and it's only $21.

This Eden oscillating water sprinkler on Amazon immediately caught my attention as a number one best seller in the Amazon Prime Day outdoor deals. I'm joining the 7k+ shoppers who have already got their hands on it to keep on top of lawn care and protect my lawn from the heatwave. I'm already seeing areas of my grass turn brown and trying to keep it hydrated every day is quite frankly time-consuming. Instead, this sprinkler promises to save me time and energy, so I can focus on relaxing in the hotter weather instead.

Even if there aren't rising temperatures where you are, lawns are susceptible to becoming dehydrated if not watered correctly over the summer. But, with the help of this sprinkler designed for maximum coverage of large lawns, yours can stay looking green and thick this season.

During extreme hot temperatures, just like other plants, your lawn is susceptible to drying out much more quickly and blades of grass may even experience leaf scorch. This dehydration can result in browning and dead patches of grass.

To avoid this, it's best to water your lawn in summer in the evening or early morning. Watering your lawn in the sun won't burn it, but the hot temperatures during the peak of the day will cause quicker evaporation, making your watering efforts counter-productive.

But, when you have a larger lawn like I do, it can be incredibly time-consuming to give your lawn such a deep watering as frequently as needed in a heatwave. I also find it hard to judge whether I have watered my lawn enough before my arm gets tired from holding up the hose pipe.

That's where this Amazon oscillating water sprinkler comes in. You simply set it up in the middle of your lawn and turn it on to move back and forth, watering each side of your grass thoroughly.

The one downside is that I'd quite like for it to have a timer, but it's easy enough to figure out how long you should water your garden with a sprinkler with our expert guide. Or, you can pick up this sprinkler timer from Amazon, which is currently on sale for less than $20.

Why shoppers love it

With a 4.5 star rating and thousands of positive reviews, I trust this Amazon oscillating water sprinkler is going to be the one thing to save my lawn in the coming days.

'This garden sprayer is awesome. This saves so much time watering our garden by just turning on the hose and letting it work its magic,' one satisfied reviewer writes. 'The sprayer is super durable as well and made of not so cheap of plastic,' they add.

And whether you have a small backyard or expansive lawn area to keep hydrated, the range control seems to come in handy:

'Sprinkler has great spread and directional controls are easy to operate. Just slide levers to desired stop points,' one reviewer explains.

Some shoppers even made a repeat purchase: 'I love this sprinkler so much that we started with one but now have three for our backyard. It provides good coverage and I like that you can adjust the range on either side using the red tab,' another customer writes.

Of course, as with all of your essential gardening tools, there is a word of warning for looking after this Amazon oscillating water sprinkler to make it last for years to come:

'It is plastic, so I recommend emptying and storing in a shed during the winter,' one reviewer writes.
