The 15-year-old prodigy recently earned selection in India's squads for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, becoming the youngest player ever chosen for the Indian men's team. In achieving the milestone, Sooryavanshi surpassed a 36-year-old record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut at the age of 16 against Pakistan in 1989.
Speaking about the youngster's remarkable journey, Sreesanth was full of praise for Sooryavanshi's dedication, discipline, and the sacrifices made by his family to support his cricketing ambitions.
"No matter how much we praise Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, it will still fall short," Sreesanth said. "His journey is a shining example for young cricketers across the country. Sachin Tendulkar showed us the path, and then Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma carried the legacy forward. What Vaibhav has demonstrated at such a young age is a prime example of commitment and perseverance."
The former fast bowler also recalled watching videos of Sooryavanshi training relentlessly during the Covid-19 pandemic, highlighting the determination that has helped shape his success.
"Even during the lockdown, videos of him practicing on the terrace were circulating. I have immense respect for his father, his coaches, and everyone involved in his development," Sreesanth said. "People often talk about opportunities in cricket, but Vaibhav's story is about creating opportunities through hard work."
Sreesanth praised the youngster's work ethic, noting the sacrifices involved in traveling long distances for practice sessions despite having no guarantee of success.
"Traveling for four hours every day, practicing tirelessly, facing between 750 and 1,000 balls daily, and constantly working on drills — that's extraordinary. Even now, he says he doesn't enjoy taking rest. There is so much to learn from his attitude," he added.
While applauding Sooryavanshi's achievements, Sreesanth also issued a word of caution about the challenges that come with sudden fame and attention.
"A lot of managers will come around now," he said. "My request to Vaibhav is to focus on himself and his cricket. Let his father and family handle everything else. He should stay away from professional managers and continue doing what has brought him this far."
As Sooryavanshi prepares for the next chapter of his cricketing journey with the Indian team, Sreesanth believes that staying grounded and maintaining the same level of dedication will be key to fulfilling his immense potential.
