Young Swans can handle finals heat: Papley

Star Sydney forward Tom Papley is confident his young teammates will be able to handle the "rough stuff" of finals football in Saturday's AFL elimination showdown against GWS in Launceston.

The Swans haven't played finals since 2018, and there's a big question mark on how some of the younger members of the squad will handle the occasion this weekend.

GWS have a history of beating up the Swans when it comes to finals - the most notable example being the 2016 qualifying final when Shane Mumford and Steve Johnson became the enforcers.

The Swans will be aiming to turn the tide on Saturday, and Papley feels Sydney's emerging youngsters will be fine with any rough tactics that may come their way.

"They're alright, they're grown up, they're ready for it," Papley said.

"I'm sure there will be some rough stuff. There is in every finals game, everyone goes so hard.

"The heat goes up a bit, the fastness of the game, the contested side of the game, it's a lot more of a territory battle.

"That's what we've spoken about. I'm totally confident in the boys."

The Swans will start as slight favourites after compiling a 15-7 season to finish sixth.

The Giants overcame a 0-3 start to finish seventh with a 11-10-1 record.

Papley booted a career-high 41 goals during the regular season to earn his maiden All-Australian berth.

Swans forward Lance Franklin missed out on a spot in the final All-Australian side, but if he is able to kick eight majors against the Giants, he will crash through the 1000 career goals mark.
