Young's adds Red Thai taste as salmon sales increase by £88m year-on-year

Seafood market leader Young’s has introduced a new “fresh and zingy” product to its chilled salmon range, as sales of the species increased by £88 million.

Lockdown saw consumers strive to bring restaurant dishes home, and fish - that overtrades in the eating out sector - saw a significant uplift through retail.

The Grimsby-headquartered giant has reported year-on-year growth of 25 per cent, and innovation is being channelled to maintain the uplift.

Red Thai Infused Salmon has launched with Asda, with the Ross House team responding to latest research. It has found inspiration is being sought by shoppers when considering fish purchases, while Asian and oriental flavours prove to be some of the most popular.

Marina Richardson, marketing controller at Young’s Seafood, said: “This new product gives shoppers yet another way to enjoy delicious, healthy salmon. Over the past year we’ve seen shoppers eating at home more often, and the Red Thai Infused Salmon works well as it can satisfy both lunch time and evening meal occasions.

“Investment into new product development at Young’s is a key priority for us as we continue to drive the market across chilled and frozen, and this latest launch is another great demonstration of our industry-leading innovation.”

The marinade is infused with garlic, paprika, chilli, coconut milk, lemongrass, coriander and parsley.

Kay Woods, buyer at Asda said: “Salmon is one of the favourite fish species for our shoppers, so we are excited to have introduced this Red Thai Infused product, giving our customers a new option to suit different types of meals at home.”
