Police are appealing for information after a young man was found dead on the A77 at the weekend.

Cops were called to the Kilmarnock road shortly before 1am on Saturday to reports of a man on the carriageway near to the Bellfield Interchange.

Upon arrival, a 21-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers don't believe there are suspicious circumstances surrounding the death but are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received reports of a man on the A77 carriageway near to the Bellfield Interchange north bound at Kilmarnock, around 12.50am on Saturday, July 31.

"Officers attended and a 21-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for around six hours and was later re-opened.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

"Anyone with information related to the incident should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 0260 of July 31 with Sergeant Kevin Blackley as the contact."
