Elton John has reportedly stepped in as a 'mediator' for the Beckhams amid their ongoing family feud. The 78-year-old musician, a longtime friend of David and Victoria Beckham and godfather to their eldest son Brooklyn, is said to be offering guidance without taking sides.
The intervention comes amid months of tension between Brooklyn and his parents, with public snubs and social media revelations fuelling speculation about the family's strained relationship. Brooklyn confirmed that he has no intention of reconciling with his parents.
The Beckham Family Feud
In January, Brooklyn used Instagram stories to accuse his parents of prioritising the 'Brand Beckham' over family ties. He alleged they attempted to bribe him into signing away the rights to his own name and claimed they repeatedly tried to sabotage his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz, by planting false media stories and interfering with their first dance during their wedding day.
Brooklyn said he grew up with 'overwhelming anxiety' due to their controlling nature and has chosen to distance himself to protect his mental health and support his wife, adding that doing so made his 'anxiety disappear'.
Prior to the bombshell statement, the family has had a simmering feud for months. Brooklyn's absence from many big family events has been notable. He skipped his father's 50th birthday celebrations and did not invite his family to his vow renewal ceremony.
Elton John Steps In
According to Mirror, Elton has spoken to Brooklyn about the situation, but is reportedly not taking sides and just 'wants everyone to be happy.' A source said that Elton simply 'adores his godson, and really has a laugh with Nicola who he thinks has a great sense of humour.'
The source added that Elton takes his role as godfather seriously. Elton and his husband, David Furnish, 'think the situation is terribly sad, and has gently suggested to all involved that life is short - to patch things up,' the source said.
The source emphasised that Elton does not wish to intrude but simply 'wants peace'.
Mother's Day Silence
Despite Elton's effort, Brooklyn seemed determined not to reconcile with his family on Mother's Day. He did not publicly greet Victoria, but did greet his mother-in-law, Claudia Heffner Peltz, with a happy birthday the day before.
He shared a photo of himself with his wife and Claudia. He wrote: 'Happy birthday to the best mother-in-law. Love u so much and hope u had the most amazing day'.
A Longstanding Friendship
Elton John and the Beckhams have been friends for over 30 years. Victoria's friendship with Elton dates back to the mid-1990s, and their families have often holidayed together in the South of France and the French Riviera.
David and Victoria's children call him 'Uncle Elton,' and he is the godfather to Brooklyn and Romeo.
Oscars Viewing Party Appearance
Brooklyn and Nicola recently attended Elton's annual Oscars viewing party, hosted by the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The event raises funds for HIV/AIDS initiatives.
Nicola later took to Instagram to thank Elton and his husband for having them. She wrote: 'What a beautiful evening for such an important cause 💖 thank you for having us @eltonjohn and @davidfurnish we love you both so much #ejafoscars.'
