A young Dublin student was quoted an "extortionate" price for car insurance while pricing around for his annual renewal.
The 22-year-old was left stunned when one insurance company quoted him nearly €7,000 for comprehensive cover.
The company quoted the once-off payment of €6,885,45 despite the young student saying he had 4 years no claims bonus.
The DCU student claimed that the quote cost more than the car which is only worth €6,000 max according to him.
Taking to Twitter, the student was left stunned and claimed that insurance companies need a "massive overhaul".
He said: "Here is a car insurance quote. I have a four years no claims bonus built up with policies in my own name.
"The car is worth €5000-6000. Insurance companies need a MASSIVE overhaul."
"I’ll probably stick with my current provider which is going to be €800.
"That other quote is still ridiculous and simply shouldn’t be allowed. We need insurance reform as soon as possible.
"Nearly €7k is extortionate, real government action is needed."
