You can now get a Boris burger at a Pontypridd cafe and it's a 'shower of shenanigans'

A cafe in Pontypridd is offering a new 'Boris Burger' poking fun at the recent mishaps in 10 Downing Street.

Barry Sidings Cafe has launched their latest addition describing it as a "shower of shenanigans, made with absolutely no compassion and a complete lack of integrity".

Their "shifty burger" was initially planned as a joke but after going viral, they decided "we just had to" and will offer the "beast" to anyone with a lack of remorse.

Posting the 'Boris Burger' on the award-winning cafe's social media, requests from far and wide came in questioning how they could get their hands on the feast, with some questioning if they catered for "work events".

The humorous burger contains 10 hand-pressed 4oz beef patties, supplied by local company The Gourmet Butcher, layered with 20 slices of Monterey Jack cheese in a toasted brioche bun.

"We've always wanted to have a bit of fun with our food, after all the questions and messages surrounding the joke, we've now added it to the menu.

"I don't think the chefs are too happy with me though," said Jamie Rowland who has owned the cafe based in Barry Sidings Countryside Park.

The venue, which is "obsessed" with bikes and quality local food, was created five years ago by Jamie after running a successful bike shop, venturing into the world of hospitality near to the cycle trails.

The "mess" burger will cost a grand sum of £35 with talks of being part as a food challenge for customers to land themselves a t-shirt as the prize.

The idea initially started as a joke between the staff and led to the burger's creation, gaining widespread attention on social media.

"The response to it was crazy, we've reached over 20,000 people on Facebook and it just got me thinking we had to.

"It's been an incredibly hard time for hospitality and we wanted to hit back to those in power who haven't been listening to the guidance they set out whilst having a bit of fun ourselves," the 43-year-old said.

Employees of the local produce-sourced cafe have been having their own fun with the social media buzz, with a hosted competition within the team to guess the amount of likes the burger will receive on their platforms - with the closest guess getting a paid day off.

"I'm lucky to have such a loyal and hard-working team and it was my way of showing appreciation to them, they're everything to me.

"The hospitality industry is changing after the pandemic, people are looking for more of an experience with their meal these days and social media is a huge part of that - including these food challenges and funny ideas," he said.

The joke was initially made on the cafe's social media.

Now from Monday to Friday, diners can grab their own 'Boris Burger' but recommendations are to book in advance. You can find out the latest inventions from the cafe by clicking here.
