Abbie Chatfield has spoken out against Clementine Ford, alleging that Ford has been consistently defaming her across multiple social media platforms.
Taking to her Instagram Stories on Sunday, Chatfield alleged that Ford has been consistently dehumanising her by making frequent disparaging comments about her across multiple social media platforms “over years”.
The latest stemmed from an article in Ford’s substack Dear Clementine: Issue #2. In a deep dive into “trad wives, liberal white women and the appeal of fascism to both” within the newsletter, Ford criticised Chatfield for her performative activism.
“This is why we have Australian influencers like Abbie Chatfield profiting from the performance of being politically engaged and presenting herself as a voice of feminist and political authority, while railing against anyone who demands more from her than shallow aphorisms and platforming genocide supporters,” Ford wrote.
“Everyone who criticises her is an idiot. They clearly don’t understand how things work. They have no strategy. They’re being mean to her. They’re jealous of her podcast and her university degree. She’s hotter than them. Everyone who disagrees with her is a troll.”
In a series of Stories which have now been shared in full on TikTok, Chatfield claimed that Ford has consistently been spreading incorrect information about her.
“What she is doing is she is continually, over months at random intervals, deciding to go on tirades about me. These are full of lies and exaggerations,” Chatfield alleged.
“She has created content specifically about me, naming me, lying about me, and exaggerating all these things. I’ve been ignoring this and taking the high road for months, despite the aggressive trolling and harassment.”
Chatfield went on to allege that Ford has used multiple platforms to sledge her, including Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Substack.
Chatfield claims that Ford has formed a parasocial relationship that’s “run by hate” and alleges that Ford has been speaking disparagingly about her with authority, despite not knowing her personally.
“You are defaming me, Clementine. You are defaming me to people privately and publicly, and it’s not okay,” Chatfield claimed.
According to Chatfield, the author has been slamming her character by telling her audience she is “a narcissist”, that she is “above her followers”, “performative”, saying that all she cares about is money and that she doesn’t do her own research into the topics she discusses on her podcast It’s A Lot.
“She does not know me,” Chatfield asserts.
“How does she know this? She is saying it with so much definitive authority that people believe her, and they come and troll me. She is assassinating my character.”
After going public, Chatfield asserts that her audience — 563K followers on IG and 653K on TikTok — has been sending her examples of when she was mentioned by Ford.
“The more I am learning about the things she has said about me. I am frightened. I am scared,” she claimed.
“She is putting fuel on the fire.”
After seeing Chatfield’s blistering statement, an anonymous gossip Instagram account, Dutch Minty, shared two screenshot examples of what they considered to be Ford publicly disparaging Chatfield.
In one, they claimed that “Clementine Ford has been targeting and driving hate towards Abbie Chatfield for months. Last night was the first time Abbie has addressed it”.
