Yorgos Zois' Arcadia premieres at Berlin Film Festival's Encounters section

Berlin Film Festival adds new films

In the enchanting world of Yorgos Zois' upcoming film 'Arcadia,' love and loss intertwine within the realms of reality and imagination. The movie, which recently debuted its trailer, is set to have its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in the Encounters section. Beta Cinema will be in charge of selling the film at the European Film Market, ensuring its reach to audiences far and wide.

The story revolves around Katerina, a neurologist, and Yannis, a former doctor, as they embark on a journey to a desolate seaside resort. The atmosphere hangs heavy with silence as they traverse the dunes, accompanied by gusts of autumn wind. Unfortunately, their purpose for this trip is far from pleasant – Yannis has been summoned to identify the victim of a tragic accident at the local hospital.

As the local policeman guides them to the morgue, Katerina's worst fears are confirmed. The victim's vehicle had careened off a stone bridge, plunging into darkness. Together with Yannis, and through her own nocturnal escapades to a mysterious beach bar named Arcadia, Katerina begins to piece together the puzzle. The fragments reveal a haunting tale of love, loss, acceptance, and the bittersweet journey of letting go.

The script for 'Arcadia' was crafted by Konstantina Kotzamani and Yorgos Zois himself. Vangelis Mourikis takes on the role of Yannis, while Angeliki Papoulia portrays Katerina. The film's production team consists of Antigoni Rota, Maria Drandaki, and Stelios Cotionis as producers, with Veselka Kiryakova serving as co-producer. The film is a collaboration between Foss Productions, Homemade Films, and Red Carpet.

Yorgos Zois is no stranger to the world of cinema. His debut short film, 'Casus Belli,' premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2010, making an impressive mark right from the start. Two years later, his second short, 'Out of Frame,' also premiered at Venice and went on to win the European Film Academy award for best European short. In 2015, Zois unveiled his first feature film, 'Interruption,' at the Venice Film Festival.

His subsequent works continued to cement his reputation as a talented filmmaker. 'Eighth Continent,' his third short film, premiered at Venice in 2017, while 'Third Kind,' another short, found its place in Critic's Week at Cannes in 2018. Zois' consistent creativity and storytelling prowess have earned him recognition and admiration within the industry.

The producers of 'Arcadia' share their excitement for this project. They believe that the film serves as a natural progression in Zois' body of work, a love story that intertwines the real and the imaginary. Their support for the film shows the confidence they have in Zois' vision, recognizing the potential impact it can have on audiences around the world.

Tassilo Hallbauer, the head of sales and acquisitions at Beta Cinema, has expressed his pride in being associated with 'Arcadia.' He believes the film to be a true gem, a beautifully crafted and magical tale that evokes profound emotions. Hallbauer also emphasizes Zois' unparalleled talent, evident in the unique and distinct signature he brings to his films. With its universal themes, 'Arcadia' is sure to resonate with viewers from all walks of life.

As the buzz builds around 'Arcadia,' anticipation mounts for its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. This intriguing fantasy-drama promises to take audiences on a captivating journey through the realms of love, loss, and the ethereal spaces between reality and imagination. With Yorgos Zois at the helm, 'Arcadia' is set to mesmerize and leave a lasting impression on audiences worldwide.
