The owner of the Yomiuri Giants baseball team told Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga that he will allow local governments to use Tokyo Dome as a venue for vaccinations against COVID-19 free of charge.
"That's good. I hope you'll proceed with that," Suga said during a meeting with owner Toshikazu Yamaguchi at the prime minister's official residence.
Vaccinations at Tokyo Dome will be conducted for the general public, after inoculations are completed of elderly people aged 65 and over. Reservations will be accepted as early as the end of June or early July, with vaccinations scheduled to start in August.

This is expected to boost vaccinations in Bunkyo Ward, where the stadium is located, and neighboring Shinjuku Ward. About 1,000 people a day are projected to get shots.
The concourse in the dome will be used for inoculations. There is also a medical office in the stadium, where emergencies can be addressed.
Yamaguchi said that on days when there are to be baseball games, people who get vaccinated at Tokyo Dome "can watch players practice" while waiting for their shot.
