Yoga day celebrations across region

Amritsar: International Yoga Day was celebrated in Punjab and Haryana, and by the BSF on the international border with Pakistan.

The main event of the Border Security Force was organised at the joint checkpost at Attari in Amritsar.

However, the scheduled programme of Union minister of state for tourism and defence Ajay Bhatt who was to attend the IYD celebrations at Attari, was cancelled.

At the BSF frontier headquarters in Jalandhar, Punjab frontier inspector general Asif Jalal, along with 250 BSF officers and men, participated in a yoga session. Police officers and cops celebrated the day at Amritsar Police Lines.

In Haryana, Union minister of state for heavy industries Krishan Pal Gurjar attended the programme at Rakhigarhi village. Hisar deputy commissioner Priyanka Soni and director of Powergrid V K Singh were also present during the programme organised by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited in association with the Union ministry.

In Kurukshetra, Union minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution and commerce and industry Piyush Goyal attended an event organised at Purshottam Garden, Brahmsarovar.

The event was jointly organised by Kurukshetra district administration, Ayush department of Haryana and Union ministry of statistics and programme implementation.

The Indian Army’s Kharga Corps also celebrated the day at their Ambala, Chandigarh, Patiala and Meerut military stations. Yoga experts from Brahma Kumari, Ambala district, conducted an event at Army Environmental Park in Ambala Cantonment.

From the Ridge in Shimla to 14,000ft above Rohtang pass, International Yoga Day was celebrated with enthusiasm across Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday.

While chief minister Jai Ram Thakur practiced yoga at The Ridge in Shimla, the ITBP jawans also performed yoga in different parts of the state, including Atal tunnel and above Rohtang pass. ITBP DIG Prem Singh said their jawans are performing yoga in different parts of the state to spread awareness about this age-old practice.

Nearly 500 people performed yoga at the north portal of Atal tunnel at 10,000ft.
