Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Iryani stressed that the legitimate government rejected any unilateral steps taken by Houthi militias, which he said were misleading the international community.

This came during a meeting between the Yemeni minister and UK Minister of State for the Middle East Andrew Murrison in London on Thursday. The two sides discussed the latest developments in Yemen and the repercussions of the unilateral steps taken by the coup militia in Hodeidah on the peace process, the official Yemeni News Agency reported.

Iryani highlighted the Houthis’ continued violations of human rights and repeated breach of the Stockholm Agreement in the city of Hodeidah and its ports, and the escalation in the area of Hajour, in the Hajjah province, which led to the death and injury of dozens.

He added that any unilateral steps in Hodeidah would be totally rejected if they were made without monitoring, verification, and delivery of maps of mines and explosives planted by the Houthi militia, which was agreed upon during the meetings held during the last period and in line with the Stockholm agreement.

The Yemeni minister called on the United Kingdom and the rest of the international community to take a firm stance on Houthi practices and pressure them to implement the Stockholm agreement and abide by international resolutions in order to achieve lasting and sustainable peace.

For his part, Murrison affirmed his country’s steadfast support for the constitutional legitimacy in Yemen and its concern for achieving peace and ending the human suffering.
