Yellow weather warning in place for thunderstorms in Nottinghamshire

Floods and power cuts could hit some areas of Nottinghamshire as an eight-hour yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is put in place today (April 12).

Starting at 3pm, The Met Office has warned there is a small chance homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

The warning is in place until 11pm with the possibility of some bus and train services experiencing delays.

Despite the weather warning, the forecast for Nottinghamshire is still looking pretty bright with highs of 19C from 3pm to 6pm.

Rain is expected to hit at 7pm with showers on and off until 9pm.

The wind will pick up from 7pm with gust of up to 33mph predicted.
